The Library offers access to both print and electronic newspapers. Current print newspapers include the following:
Online access to some newspapers is available through the library databases. See the links featured in the Hawaiʻi Newspapers and the U.S. and Global Newspapers boxes below.
KCC Library has copies of The Garden Island in the library; however, only the 1911-1922 editions can be accessed freely online. You can freely access a limited number of online articles directly from The Garden Island website yourself. If you need access to more than what is freely available or if you need any help to find articles from The Garden Island, don't hesitate to ask us. Also, if you know the specific article you want, you can email us the title, author, and date of the article, and we will try to get you a copy.
Some online newspapers offer full-text searching. When that is unavailable, indexes are helpful in finding articles of interest. Indexes contain organized lists of topics (such as people, places, events) or elements of newspapers (such as advertisements or illustrations) so that you can identify the specific newspaper that contains the information you are interested in. Full texts of articles are not available through the indexes below, but some articles can be accessed through the newspaper's websites, through Proquest Newspapers, EBSCO's Newspaper Source, or through Google searches of article titles. Other articles must be accessed via microfilm at a library.
Feel free to email us with titles of articles you are having trouble accessing.
